Air Niugini Cuts Number Of Seats To Carry Extra Fuel
(Post-Courier)
The lack of refueling systems and uncertainties about fuel quality has led Air Niugini to reduce the number of passengers and cargo it picks up on some domestic flights, the Post-Courier reports.
The airline says it airliners need to carry more fuel from their originating destinations because of concerns at Goroka, Gurney (Alotau), Popondetta, Kundiawa, Tari and Vanimo.
Air Niugini says the airfields at those destinations lack adequate refueling facilities, and the fuel supplier has been slow in conducting required quality checks.
Flights to and from those towns are experiencing cuts in the number of seats and cargo carried, to allow Air Niugini to load more fuel at the originating field.
